THe only way to escape the heat is to stay in the air-con comfort of the rooms but the minute you step out, its like getting slammed in the face with the full force of the heat. No matter how many baths one takes, half an hour later, you are covered in sweat.
Its affecting Justin too.. cos its just way way too HOT! that plus the awful teething has not stopped yet. He woke up at 3am last night cos i think it was just too warm and couldn't go back to sleep. I think i must have pat pat his backside for like 1 hour before he went back to la lah land.. had to turn on the aircon full blast too!
Today, on a very hot Friday morning, i had Amy, Serene and Xavier and my grandma and aunty plus my in-laws here for nasi lemak. After a full meal, and thanks to the heat, all of us were concussed. Am sitting here by the laptop, in my t-shirt and shorts and with a ah peh fan ... fanning away furiously.
Amy was so sweet to make Justin a special frame of his pictures :) its super lovely. Will take a photo of it and post it up.. when i can move to actually do something.
The Heat is getting into my brain.
In the past, i just had to endure the sleepless nights, the biting and the crankiness. But this time, its the molars (well, to be specific - at least 3 of them), and not only is he doing the former.. he is also refusing milk!! YIKES! I think sucking on the bottle causes him pain so he is refusing it. It takes, on a good day, 30mins to 1 hour for him to finish his milk and that isn't even a lot of it. The lack of milk is making him lose some weight.. making me and sari so fustrated at times.
These are times when i seriously contemplate pumping milk again to give him some BM or letting him suckle. Have kept my pump away since he turned 1 year old and only latching him on at nights.
Doc said it will last another 2 - 3 weeks.!!!
It always tickles me to hear that. It makes the teeth growing sound so, ahem professional!
But last night, he did another "i shall scream all night if i want to" 3am wake up call. In my blurry state, i tried to put some dentinox on his gums cos i figured it might be teething. Boy did he yell in protest. Refused to let me go near his gums and bit my finger hard in protest.
So yes, auntie sari.. he is processing his teeth, now that he is done with the processing of his walk.
this baby sleeps badly.. not that he has been ever that good in this department. But the sleep nightmare is the pits this time. Am getting so upset cos he just refuses to fall asleep with me. Only sari can get him to take his naps and good to bed at night. Can someone tell me what this is all about? I rock him and he just screams his head off and refuses .. only wants to get down on the floor and walk. Once again, hubby and i are severely sleep deprived!
When i was away in Manila, justin woke up like 4 times in a night.. i tot it was just because he misses me, but when i got back, i got the same treatment. Last night, it was awaking at 1am, 3am, and then 4 plus. Am so tired. I wished there was a magical answer to this.
None of the crying out loud has helped. In fact, it just resulted in the same.. vomit all over the floor. which made me even more tired cos i had to clean it up.
giving up soon...
Woooohoooooo!!!
We can't wait.. well, at least hubby and i can't wait. Don't know about Justin - for now, i am just praying and crossing my fingers that he will be well behaved on the flight there. Otherwise, i am sure he will be disturbing the passengers who are trying to get some shuteye during the midnight flight. Crossing fingers, toes and all other parts of the body that can possibly be crossed.
It would be my first holiday in a super long time.. a good 2 years or more i think. wow. that's seriously long. At least hubby still got to go to Sydney to attend his cousin's wedding in Dec 07 but i have been stuck in Singapore since hmmm.. Aug07. Ok, not that long. But really, it seems so much longer.
We are going home to adelaide :) It would nice to meet up with everyone again but more importantly, i am hoping we get some decent time together as a family. This time we are renting a place in Glenelg so i think it would be fun! haha.. considering the last time we stayed in Glenelg was during our mini honeymoon. I think boy will enjoy the sights and the fresh air.. i know hubby sure will! and oh yes, banana carmel pie, here i come!
I just finished packing for the trip. THere was so much to bring.. more for the King that the both of us. So, for now the count is: 1 big luggage for clothes (myself and the king), 1 cabin size luggage (for all of the kings food and toys and others), 1 big big bag for hubby's stuff and the rest for the king.. err. one handcarry bag for diapers and assorted stuff. Wow, the king has a lot. Let's just see if we make it alive through immirgration!!
So, will update on it when i get back on my holiday .. we are leaving on Friday!!
PS: after note.. Boy can say "duck" when we ask him what is the animal on the book! haha..
Hubby and I are just sleepless pandas, yet again. We are just hoping that it will pass over soon.
Update - He is crawling on his fours now! just 2 weeks shy of his 11th month birthday :) Hurrray! I get so excited when he crawls that sometimes i just drop everything i have on hand and just watch him shake his bum, crawling to and fro the living room. He also realised how to "right" thing up... he will throw a toy on the floor then sit down and try to put it upright :P he does it so many times but still gets excited each time he gets it right.. it proves to show that it does take so little to excite a baby.
Plans for his birthday bash ... realised that i dont' have much time! yikes yikes.. cos we are going on holiday at the end of the month, means i have to finalise everything by then.. yikes! got to hurry on that one. the plans are more or less there just have to sit down and do everything up.
Came back while he just had his bath and was playing in the living room. For a minute or two, i think he couldn't recongize me. Then, when he did.. he went lunging straight into my arms. Spent the next 10 mins or so carrying him around the house :) Missed that special scent of his. Ohhh..it felt great to be back.
I came back to a rather grown up boy! Just away for a few days and justin had learnt to cruise around the living room really well! Its quite funny cos he just pulls himself up and down the sofa repeatedly and then walks along it,and when he gets to the end, he lower himelf down and says "yeeeehhhhhhh" and does the clapping or twinke twinke action. He says yeahhhhh" cos we always cheer him on whenever he does an action and i think it has caught on!
This sense of mobility makes he very restless now.. he is no longer satisfied just sitting and playing with his toys from the toybox but wants to climb all over us and cruise. Hubby says the little one gives a good massage cos he likes to climb all over us when we are lying down :) Up and down he climbs all day... wondering if he ever gets tired.
So on Sat night, i think the little one had a rough day cos he had only very short naps and as hubby put it, got manhandled at The Little Gym. (it was a trial class at the open house). That night, he had a screaming fit which of cos, resulted in him vomiting all over me. Thankfully, night was a lot calmer.
Today, he seemed to have discovered a new skill... putting things upright. He was playing with a wooden doll and rolling it all around for some time untill he realised that he could gently put it upright :) We were cheering him on... just so proud of the little one.
well, that'sall for now..
Am missing both the hubby and the little bub. Had to leave home around 6 to catch my early morning flight and boy was it hard to tear myself away from the baby.Wondering if he did know that mummy was leaving for a business trip this morning so he promptly woke up at 6 am, just in time to see me finish packing and had a quick cuddle. Ohhhh.. i miss hubby and baby so much.
While i am away, i am still pumping to try to keep up with the supply. Today, i had the "pleasure" of pumping in an aircraft toliet! haha.. it wasn't that bad, just had to manage my timing so that the toliets will be relatvely empty. No pressure then and can pump in peace.
The little one did a new trick on sat.. he opens and closes his hands to the tune of "twinke twinke".. :) Now he can make the movements for 2 songs, one is twinke twinke and the other is "the wheels on the bus" Seems like this is the stage where they learn new things pretty fast. Time to go do some research on what esle i can teach him.
Am going to be away for the next 3 days... sigh. nothing beats the comfort of home..
Weight : (at 10 months and 1 week) 12.09kg (lighter than i tot but still above the 97 percentile)
Height: 78.5cm (at the 97 percentile)
:) Doc commented that his weight gain has slowed down.. thank goodness for that. Considering that he was like 10.9kg at 6 months. His growth so far has been lenght wise and not horizontal.
We went away with some fever meds, just in case and this is what made me happy like a clam.. a free tin of FM! haha.. can save money.
Today, he discovered a new skill and he was practising it all day... he would sit up from a crawling position, starting to move a little on his fours and then sit down, does his version of a clap (which is to wave his hands up and down and slap his thighs), and starts reaching out to something to help him stand. After standing and crusing, he sits down, claps again and crawls away. It was keeping him entertained all day :) Am happy that he has finally found some mobility! But now he climbs all over me... not a moment of rest while i am at home.
We also started showing him Pocoyo cartoons.. it started one sunday morning when we noticed that he would sit still for the whole duration of that 1 cartoon. But show him Thomas the Train or Dora and he would simply not be interested. Not sure if its becos Pocoyo is quite a simple cartoon? Hubby and I like the characters and so ordered the VCDs from popular bookstore for him. So far, he is enjoying them :)
At 10 months, i think something told him that the world is more reachable if he stood up. And so he did. Now he is pulling up and cruising all over the place. :) He can walk around his fisherprice playtable and the coffeetable too! Am so proud of his boy ... he has errr.. stopped wanting to crawl and wants to stand up all the time. well, at least he did crawl, although it was not on his fours and more like dragging himself with his arms but hey, at least he did it.
He smiles a lot more in response to his name and funny things.. he looks up at the fan and points at it (but he does the waving of the fingers action). When u ask him where is the elephant, he looks in the right direction and smiles (cos he likes that windchime so much!). Nowadays it is getting harder and harder to leave him at the door and he insist on going to the lift and sees you off... and today, he sat at the door and said something when i ask where is daddy?? :) When i got home from work today, he promptly threw down his toys and made the "carry me" sign. Can i complain?? It just makes me so happy to be home!
He had lots of playdates last week..4 in fact! which is a record for him. Got the chance to meet up with some gal friends and the little ones had lots of fun at T3.
As he approaches his first birthday, we are starting to plan how his first big bash will be. This little bub will be having 3 birthday parties.. well, let's hope that the mum an dad are still sane after that. More updates on his birthday bash soon. :)
No mummy or daddy yet!! I am putting a bet that he will definately say Daddy before Mummy cos he goes into this wild craze action kicking, hands flying everywhere mode whenever he stays up late enough to see Daddy home from work. Nothing of such sort greets me when i come home. Sigh, all i am to him is a milking cow!
Its cute how he is practising his words.. he says "hurrrow" to everything :) I was wondering how he learnt that then realised to my horror, cos mummy and daddy were watching Team America a few weeks ago and making fun of how the Kim Jong-Il says "harrrroooowww". Yikes, maybe he got it from there.
Justin shows so much excitement when he sees older children that it is getting hard to keep him in our arms. This baby will twist and turn his way out of your arms to want to play with the kids. Its making me think that perhaps i should try to find another playschool for him or bring him back to the gym so that he gets some interaction. Will start searching for places.. I think justin will enjoy them.
Last Friday, we were doing our usual veg marketing at the usual store and out of curiousity, i asked the uncle if i could borrow his weighing scale (you know the type that they use in the markets), to weight the little one. We are not due for a PD checkup so for months, i was wondering what was his weight. OK, here's the scary bit.. the weighing scale's maximum weight is 12 kgs.. Justin on top of the scale.. the scale was just spinning around... he is more than 12kg!!! OMG. Ok, seeing the scale spin around really was quite funny!
When i got back, i was a bit down cos this boy is gaining weight and still not crawling. Was commenting to Sari that, that's it. i think he wouldn't crawl and i better buy him a walker cos bending over to support him while walking is killing our backs. Was worried that Justin would be one of those fat fat kids that have to go for trim and fit club. He is obese!!
That night, when i was still a bit down and complaining to my neighbours.. he finally did what we have been waiting for! A short lepoard crawl! Not on his fours yet but hey, trust me... anything with him moving forward is great already!
Here's a short video of him doing just that
<embed src="http://images.video.msn.com/flash/soapbo
Boy, we are so proud of him!
He took the bottle of bm mixed with fm .. quite curious about the new taste at first and according to sari - he took a few sucks, then paused and had a "thoughtful" look, then went on to repeat that a few times and then finally finished the bottle :) well, at least he can taste the difference! And yes, the bottle can only be given by hubby or sari.. cos mummy still = breast.
I am still feeling strange that my son has another source of milk.. but i am still hoping to try to breastfeed him for at least 1 year or more, if i can :) Tonight, as i nursed him to sleep and stroked his forehead, i missed those times when he was small enough to be craddled with one arm and would coo to sleep.
Hubby always says that Justin is the happiest when he wakes up in the morning :) with a wide grin and snuggling up to me and daddy in bed. We love those moments too, which is why we make it a point to try to wait till the little bub wakes up before we go to work. And give him a big big cuddle :) Hope that he will still let us cuddle him for a lot more years to come!
It must be the lack of sleep that is making me forgetful.
Shortly after i did up the last post.. i realised that there is just so much more that i didn't blog about. So yes, here at 11pm at night, i am trying to catch up with my blogging while justin is sleeping next to me.
What esle is new?
1. No.9 tooth is sprouting - which is giving him, me and daddy sleepless nights and frantic days. Its no.9, which is quite a lot i think for a child who just turned 9 months. I think he is trying to have more teeth to sink in to the pineapple tarts during CNY. It seems that the pain is less as compared to the first time he sprouted teeth but still it annoys him. He refuses the bottle (unless he is very hungry) and seems disinterested in food. Luckily, he still likes nursing.
2. He is starting to respond in conversations. - i noticed lately that he too, participates in our conversations. Like when i ask, "what do u think justin?", he will "en or bahahah or hmm" in respond. And he looks at u as he does that. sometimes even smiling in reply when u give him some food, or a toy. Does he understand? i think he does :) He is not talking yet.. and not making the "mama or baba" sounds (a closer bet would be "aunnnnnnti" which i guess is auntie, for Sari)
3. He wants to play with other children - noticed it a few times already but especially so tonight when our friends from adelaide, brought their kids for dinner at home.. as long as the older children were playing with a particular toy, justin insists on being there with them. At first i tot he was just showing interest in the same toy, but he doesn't .. he "walks" up to them, looks at them and hands them a ball or some toy. Guess he means, "play with me?" Cute is it?
Have been breastfeeding him for like 9 months now... wondering if i can make it to the 1 year mark!!! I sure hope so...
1. Developing a pincer grip - Think that he has been doing this for sometime now.. finally able to pinch the biscuits off his tray. He aims for his mouth.. So cute! sometimes he can't make the biscuit go into his mouth and then he starts banging the table!
2. Pulling himself up - he is trying to do this each time he is in his cot.. quite dangerous already. Its quite cute though to see him use all the effort to pull up.. sometimes he resorts to biting on to the rail and using his arms to push his body up. After standing for a while, he drops down on his bum. :)
3. Trying to move from a sitting position to a kneeling one - He has been trying to do this.. but not sure if its becos he is quite heavy so it seems quite a effort.
:) He turned 9 months on tuesday so i guess these are his developmental milestones that he will be achieving soon.
Was just remarking to Sari that when she went back for her holidays in December, i recall that Justin only had 2 bottom teeth and the rest were on their way out. Just one month later now, he has sprouted an additional 6? that's quite a lot, if you as me. No guessing why hubby and i are pandas with dark eye rings. I remember that he only slept through for 5 hours for 2 nights this week.. cos he has a new hobby.
Yes, its singing and talking at night.. in the wee hours of the morning, hubby and i will be "entertained" by the little bub's lecture about "ahhh .. hmmm.. boooo.. hmm..ahhhh.. wahhh..." We ignore him and he goes on for quite a while, tossing and turning in bed. His throat gets dry and then he starts to cough (cos busy blowing the saliva all over the bed) and he retches. That wakes us up, in anticipation that he throws up. Cos he has done that a few times already.
So hubby and i take turns to get him to "keep quiet". That means the following:
1. Saying "justin .. its dark .. go to sleep"
2. Saying" justin, go to sleep"
3. Shouting "Justin.. GO TO SLEEP"
that doesn't work most of the time...
We resort to carrying him .. then the fellow decides that he wants to get up and stand and walk. SIGH!
In the spirit of doing new things for the new year :) we brought Justin and Sari to Sentosa!! Am still exhausted from the day's outing so wouldn't blog much here yet.. just one cute photo of the boy w daddy at Palawan Beach.
Let me try to recall all that we did in December :
1. Went to the zoo..
We took the ferry ride across the reservior to see the zoo's newest attraction and get some lunch there - The water theme park! Justin is a bit too young to play with the water but am sure that we will bring him back there again when he is older. Sari came along on this mini exercusion with us too :) The last time she went to the zoo was 7 years ago!
2. Cut Justin's hair
His hair, especially the bangs were getting long and his sides were covering his ears. We decided to give him a home hair cut. But how do we keep him still?? Solution : Sit him in the sink and turn on the tap.. the running water caught his attention for long enough to cut his bangs. Mummy cut one side, Auntie Sari the other.. hmmm.. Sari's side was much nicer. Then again, she is the one studying hairdressing!
As Christmas was drawing near, Justin met up with quite a number of his friends over playdates :) Mummy hosted one for Ian and Faith to visit and another for one of his closest friends, Xavier. Justin also met Baby Javier at Starbucks with Auntie Stef.
4. Celebrate Xmas with the Neigbours!!
Mummy and Daddy went for a lovely lovely xmas dinner with our neighbours at The Line!! It was super, duper good! So good that we are planning for it to be an annual affair :) With all you can drink bubbly and all you can eat seafood, it was heaven on earth (quoting the dad)! Mummy and Daddy drank quite a bit and Daddy was having a hung over the next day, but hey, its only Xmas once a year!
5. Celebrated Xmas with the Relatives!
Its the annual xmas get-together with mummy's cousins.. this year, cos of the 2 babies, we had lunch at Globetrotters which is a very child friendly resturant :) Justin is still too young to play in the playarea but Cousin LX had a ball of time in there. Maybe next year, Justin will have his turn! Meanwhile, he entertained himself with the simple spoon... busy munching away..
What would xmas be like without pressies for the bub! We are indeed blessed and Justin received a lot of presents for his first xmas.. from hershey rompers from his auntie all the way from US, walkers from his godma sarah and auntie YL and uncle KH, a set of stack cars from auntie xx, uncle jon and auntie yy, "I can read" VCD from auntie A, more rompers from his grandparents, a muscial instrument from auntie s and more books from mummy and daddy! Mummy had more fun opening the presents and Justin just busied himself with the wrappers! haha...Oh yes, how can i forget.. he got 3 sets of new outfits from Auntie Sari too!
So, one last picture of us in December.... See you again in 2009!
